26 July 2024
At the “6th Creative Nakhon Festival”, EGCO Group’s Khanom Learning Center exhibition told an inspiring story about how the historical and architectural values of the “Floating Power Plant” are preserved and turned into a learning center about energy, power generation and a harmony of co-existence between a power plant, communities and the environment. Ms. Pinsuda Piampiti, Electricity Generating Public Company Limited or EGCO Group’s VP - Corporate Affairs, said that EGCO Group started its power generation business in Nakhon Si Thammarat in 1995. Believing that “good beginning results in good ending”, the company has given high importance to educating young people about energy and environment in parallel with promoting sustainable and harmonious living between the business and local communities and the environment. Based on this belief, EGCO Group has turned the Khanom Power Plant Unit 1, which is the floating power plant that already stopped commercial production, into Khanom Learning Center. From 2019, this learning center has been opened to the public. Centered to the designing process and development of this project is to celebrate the historical and architectural values of Thailand’s first and only floating power plant by preserving the entire project, covering its industrial style building and interior. This has enabled Khanom Learning Center to maintain its original values and creatively pass on the knowledge about electricity to the younger generation and general public through multimedia and new presentation techniques.
“EGCO Group’s Khanom Learning Center created an exhibition and support the 6th Creative Nakhon Festival organization. We hoped to introduce the learning center to a wider audience and inspire young people to learn more about science. The learning center is also a tourist attraction that drives the development and progress of creative economy and becomes the pride of Khanom. With this project, we are helping local community and people to maximize their capability and creativity given rich local history, which will help support sustainable development of Nakhon Si Thammarat. At the same time, it underlines EGCO Group’s commitment to growing together with the local community in which it operates,” said Ms. Pinsuda.
