Occupational Health and Safety 2023

Occupational Health and Safety Practices 2023

Managing power plants with determination and utmost safety focus is crucial for every facility within EGCO Group. However, establishing occupational health and safety standards in power plant operations cannot be accomplished at one single time. Continuous inspection and refinement of systems, machinery, facilities, and equipment are required to ensure the highest reliability of the power plants and minimize any possible accidents.

EGCO Group provides personnel training sessions to enhance their knowledge and understanding regarding occupational health and safety. Meetings to facilitate the exchange of experiences in the safe management of power plants are organized on a regular basis.

Employee Training on Safety Management Diagnosis 2023

EGCO Group in collaboration with ERM-Siam Co., Ltd., organized an employee training project on Safety Management Diagnosis. The project aims to empower employees to recognize workplace safety issues or challenges, and enhance their abilities to formulate effective strategies to mitigate those concerns. Emphasis is placed on enhancing employees’ skills in identifying the root causes of safety issues, which is crucial to determining mitigation and management measures for workplace safety.

This training project involves conducting interviews with employees from EGCO Group’s power plants and providing suggestions to participants who successfully passed the workplace safety issues identification process. This approach enables the participants to experience practical exercises, enhancing their understanding of safety management analysis.

Key objectives of the training are provided below.

  • Strengthening the ability to identify the root causes of safety issues that may arise during day-to-day operations.
  • Enhancing a comprehensive understanding of safety management within the power plants currently in operation.
  • Cultivating safety culture and awareness, and promoting positive attitude toward safety among training participants.

Benefits of the Project

  • Enable operators’ capability to identify and correct safety issues.
  • Raise employees’ workplace safety awareness.

Implementation Approach

  • Arranging the interviews with safety officers, plant managers, and the Occupational Health and Safety Committee of EGCO Group.
  • Organizing field training sessions for EGCO Group’s power plant employees, thereby acquiring analytical results to develop short-term and long-term safety management plans.

2023 Performance

21 employees have passed the training program, comprising the members of EGCO Group’s Occupational Health and Safety Committee and selected power plant employees.

Hazard Recognition Training (HRT) and Field Safety Coaching 2023

EGCO Group recognizes that safety is of utmost importance in its operation since accidents could have an impact on all relevant parties. However, accidents are controllable and predictable. The implementation of mitigation measures could have prevented the hazards that were previously identified.

EGCO Group, in collaboration with ERM-Siam Co., Ltd, therefore arranged Hazard Recognition Training (HRT) and Field Safety Coaching sessions for EGCO Group’s power plant managers, operation managers, and operation controllers. The objectives of the training sessions are:

  • Raise safety awareness within EGCO Group, which includes the safety systems currently in place.
  • Enhance the understanding of risks and hazards in EGCO Group’s current operations.
  • Strengthen hazard recognition and identification capabilities of power plant managers, operation managers, and operation controllers.
  • Strengthen communication skills to intervene in operations when encountering safety hazards.
  • Promote the development of safety leaders within EGCO Group.

On 6 September 2023, EGCO Group arranged a Hazard Recognition Training Program at Banpong Utility Power Plant (BPU). There were 20 attendees from Ban Pong Utility Power Plant (BPU), Klongluang Utility Power Plant (KLU), Khanom Power Plant (KEGCO), EGCO Cogeneration Power Plant (EGCO Cogen), Roi Et Green Power Plant (RG), SPP2, SPP3, SPP4, SPP5, Solarco Power Plant, Theppana Wind Fram (TWF), Chaiyaphum Wind Farm (CWF), and EGCO Engineering and Service Co., Ltd. (ESCO). Outlines of the training program included:

Basic Life Support & CPR & AED & Choking 2023

In 2023, EGCO Group organized Basic Life Support & CPR & AED & Choking Training for the Occupational Health and Safety Working Group, along with relevant employees from each power plant. The course encompasses emergency response management and practical exercises in first-aid and CPR, which are crucial for enhancing the capacity of employees to address medical emergencies. The training offers knowledge about CPR and first-aid techniques, along with the accurate utilization of first-aid equipment e.g. automated external defibrillator together with basic life support.

Benefits of the Project

  • Enhance employees’ knowledge and skills about first-aid and CPR exercises, which empower them to control the situation. Fast and appropriate first-aid practices in the event of accidents or injuries increase the likelihood of survival and reduce recovery time.
  • Empower participants to apply the knowledge of basic life-saving skills to assist others in their daily lives and beyond the workplace.

Implementation Approach

  • Organizing in-class training for the Occupational Health and Safety Working Group, along with relevant employees from each power plant.
  • Participants are required to pass both theoretical and practical tests to obtain the certification.
  • The training was conducted by Prosperous Co., Ltd., a company specializing in basic life support for non-healthcare provider programs, in compliance with the standards set by the American Heart Association.

2023 Performance

39 operators have passed the training program, comprising the occupational health and safety working group, along with relevant employees from each power plant.
