SAFETY LEADERSHIP TRAINING

In 2024, EGCO Group organized a safety leadership training program, which is an interactive training course designed to adjust mindsets and strengthen attitudes toward safety leadership in alignment with current situations and standards.

The program also highlights the role of safety leadership and focuses on training employees in the positions of GM/MD managers at EGCO Group's power plants, as follows:

  • Khanom Power Plant (KEGCO)
  • Banpong Utilities PowerPlant (BPU)
  • Klongluang Utilities Power Plant (KLU)
  • EGCO Cogeneration Power Plant (EGCO Cogen)
  • EGCO Engineering & Service (ESCO)
  • Theppana Wind Farm (TWF) and Chaiyaphum Wind Farm (CWF)
  • SPP2 SPP3 SPP4 SPP5 GPS and Solarco Power Plant (SLC)

In addition, the program aims to provide knowledge and skills related to hazard recognition, with executives participating in the program to ensure that subordinates are motivated and fully engaged.

Benefits of the Project

  • This course helps employees at the executive level of power plants to develop an understanding of their roles and responsibilities in safety leadership and safety attitudes.
  • Promotes target achievement of zero lost time injury and zero fatalities.

Implementation Approach

  • Organize interactive training, focusing on learning through hands-on practice by sharing experiences and brainstorming.
  • The training participants included 8 people at the manager level (GM/MD).

HAZARD RECOGNITION TRAINING

EGCO Group organized Hazard Recognition Training for the second consecutive year to develop employees' skills in identifying and recognizing hazards, as well as enhancing communication and reporting skills related to unsafe conditions.

In 2024, the training was provided to employees in various positions, such as safety officers, operations supervisors, operators, and maintenance staff from several power plants, including Banpong Utilities Power Plant (BPU) SPP2 SPP3 SPP4 SPP5 GPS Solarco (SLC) Klongluang Utilities Power Plant (KLU) Khanom Power Plant (KEGCO) EGCO Cogeneration Power Plant (EGCO Cogen) Theppana Wind Farm (TWF) Chaiyaphum Wind Farm (CWF) and EGCO Engineering & Service (ESCO).

The training is divided into two parts: Classroom instruction, which aims to provide participants with an understanding of safety values, awareness, basic knowledge of hazards, risk acceptance, and effective safety communication methods, as well as procedures such as safety observation and the right to stop work. Hands-on training, which is conducted in a group format to provide participants with the opportunity to practice communication skills and hazard recognition in simulated situations.

Benefits of the Project

  • From the first training conducted in 2023 to the training conducted in 2024, participating power plants have made significant improvements in their safety performance.
  • Training participants learned the correct procedure of reporting stop work to maintain safety, as well as acquired knowledge on recognizing hazards and communicating encountered risks.
  • All power plants showed an improved average score after the training compared to before the training.

Implementation Approach

  • Conduct training in classroom and hands-on formats, with a focus on learning through interaction, experience sharing, and brainstorming.
  • The training participants included 197 people from BPU, KLU, KEGCO, EGCO Cogen, SLC & SPP, GPS , CWF & TWF and ESCO.

PROMOTING WORKFORCE HEALTH & DEVELOPMENT

Khanom Power Plant organized a health promotion activity through the Health and Wellness Development for Working-Age People Program in 2024.

The objective of the program is to encourage employees to adopt healthy behaviors as role models for the organization, as well as to provide knowledge, understanding, and skills to help employees modify their lifestyles and take care of their physical and mental health. Additionally, the program aims to reduce the risks of illness or death by promoting health.

  • Implement through various activities to promote physical and mental well-being.
  • Organize health care knowledge sharing activities.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY 2024 TRAINING PLAN

In 2024, EGCO Group has organized the annual Occupational Health and Safety Training Plan, which includes:

  • Basic Life Support / CPR & AED & Choking training to learn how to handle emergency situations in the event of an accident, including first aid and CPR training. This is essential for enhancing employees' capabilities in responding to medical emergencies. Additionally, trainees will learn CPR techniques, first aid, and how to use first aid equipment, such as an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Benefits of the Project

  • Employees acquired knowledge of how to manage emergency situations. As a result, when encountering or experiencing an incident, employees can provide proper first aid at initial stage before moving the injured person or until the ambulance arrives.

Implementation Approach

  • The training participants of Basic Life Support / CPR & AED & Choking training included 38 people.

Safety Programs for Power Plants and Joint Venture in the Philippines

In 2024, EGCO Group enhanced its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs, conducting annual safety inspections and training at Quezon Power (QPL) and joint venture San Buenaventura Power (SBPL) in the Philippines.

Key initiatives included:

  • Confined Space Safety & Multi-Gas Monitor Training for QPL attendants
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) for QPL and SBPL personnel and trainees
  • Coal-Related Fire Hazards – Prevention, Awareness, and Response Training for 159 QPL and 83 SBPL personnel
  • Confined Space Safety Training for 108 QPL and 62 SBPL staff
  • Permit to Work Training on Hot Works, Confined Space Entry, and Excavation for both QPL and SBPL
  • Chlorine Safety Training for 18 QPL and 27 SBPL staff
  • Drug-Free Workplace Seminar covering substance abuse policy and rehabilitation
  • Oil Spill Response Training and Drill for QPL employees and emergency site contractors

Benefits of the Project

  • Health and safety incidents were reduced
  • Emergency preparedness measures were improved
  • No lost time incidents were reported
  • A drug-free workplace was actively promoted

Implementation Approach

  • Conduct training in classroom and hands-on formats, with a focus on learning through interaction, experience sharing, and brainstorming with participants from both QPL and SBPL

Occupational Health and Safety Programs Expansion to Joint Ventures

In 2024, EGCO Group’s joint ventures conducted occupational health and safety programs as part of regular monitoring and evaluation to ensure a safe working environment.

OHS training and initiatives were conducted at Nam Theun 1 Power Company Limited (NT1PC), Nam Theun 2 Power Company Limited (NTPC), Kaeng Khoi Power Generation Company Limited (KPG) and Paju Energy Services Company Limited (Paju) which includes:

  • Safety induction and refresh training to employees and contractors before starting each type of work
  • Emergency response drills for flood and chemical scenario
  • Monthly inspection and testing of safety equipment
  • Alcohol testing for employees and contractors
  • Accident investigation and sharing incident case in the case of reported injuries

Benefits of the Project

  • Preventative actions for occupational health and safety conducted in compliance with ISO 45001:2018

Implementation Approach

  • Implemented occupational health and safety programs through conducting training, inspections, testing of safety equipment and emergency response drills monthly
