Water Management 2025
Water Resource Conservation
EGCO Group promotes efficient water utilization across its operations through the application of water recycling as part of its water management practices.
In 2025, several power plants within the group implemented water management projects focused on recycling treated effluent and process water to reduce reliance on natural water sources. Key achievements are as follows:
EGCO Cogeneration (EGCO Cogen): Recycled 90,277 m3 of treated effluent from its holding pond for landscape maintenance and irrigation.
Quezon Power Plant (QPL): Utilized 101,417.89 m3 of treated effluent for various operational activities, including road cleaning, the Spray Dryer Absorber (SDA) system, and as feed water for the Reverse Osmosis (RO) system. This initiative successfully avoided 20.68 metric tons of CO2 emissions (tCO2).
Klongluang Utilities (KLU): Recycled 1,362 m3 of water from the demineralization process for landscape irrigation.
Khanom Power Plant (KEGCO): Repurposed 1,007 m3 of wastewater from operations and residential areas for landscape maintenance.
These collective initiatives significantly reduce reliance on raw water resources throughout EGCO Group’s operations.
Benefits of the Project
- Conserve water resources by recycling treated wastewater.
- Reduce dependence on raw water supply for operational process and irrigation.
Implementation Approach
- Recycle treated wastewater and processed water from operations for landscaping irrigation and other operational activities.
- Monitor, record, and verify water reuse volumes through the metering system installed within the operational area.

Improving Wastewater Quality for Power Plant Use
In 2025, Quezon Power Plant (QPL) implemented initiatives to improve wastewater quality by optimizing the treatment process within its seawater desalination system.
The project specifically addresses scaling issues in heat exchanger tubes by selecting more effective antiscalant and optimizing chemical dosing rates, while simultaneously enhancing the monitoring of operational parameters. Furthermore, additional maintenance activities were conducted, such as cleaning flow distribution boxes and performing rigorous water quality inspections, to ensure the stability and continuous efficiency of the water treatment process.
These improvements enhanced wastewater quality for plant use, eliminated the need for chemical descaling, and extended equipment service life while reducing operational costs and environmental risks.
Benefits of the Project
- Improve wastewater quality to enable recycling and reuse within power plant operations.
- Elevate personnel safety by eliminating hazardous chemicals and mitigate wastewater impact from descaling.
Implementation Approach
- Optimize antiscalant dosing strategy and chemical selection within the desalination water treatment system.
- Monitor water quality parameters, and equipment conditions continuously to maintain water treatment efficiency.

Training on Enhancing Water Efficiency in Production Process
EGCO Group promotes employee awareness of efficient water management through training and knowledge-sharing initiatives to support optimal water utilization.
Nam Theun 2 Power Company (NTPC) shares its water management practices during the Annual Adaptive Management Committee Meeting. This forum enables power producers and government agencies to exchange operational and environmental monitoring data, strengthening sustainable water management practices across the sector.
Similarly, BLCP Power Plant (BLCP) consistently promotes water conservation awareness among employees and contractors. These efforts are delivered through internal communication channels, such as onsite announcement boards and organization-wide emails, to foster a culture of water stewardship.
Benefits of the Project
- Enhance employee awareness and understanding of water resource efficiency and conservation practices.
- Foster a culture of responsible water management across the organization.
Implementation Approach
- Organize knowledge-sharing meetings and coordination forums on water management practices.
- Launch awareness campaigns and training programs for employees and contractors to promote efficient water utilization.

Water Reduction Initiatives
Reducing water consumption in power generation operations is a core aspect of EGCO Group’s sustainable water management.
BLCP Power Plant (BLCP) has installed a drainage system at its coal yard to collect rainwater and direct it to the wastewater treatment system, preventing contamination. The treated water is then stored and reused as a substitute for raw water in various power plant activities. Meanwhile, Khanom Power Plant (KEGCO) implements water conservation measures by reusing 5,371 m3 of treated water for landscape irrigation and facility maintenance.
These initiatives help reduce water consumption and strengthen sustainable water utilization across EGCO Group operations.
Benefits of the Project
- Reduce raw water consumption by repurposing treated wastewater and harvested rainwater.
- Prevent environmental contamination by effectively managing and treating wastewater discharge.
Implementation Approach
- Treat and reuse rainwater collected from the coal yard for various power plant activities.
