Energy Management 2024

Reduction Amount of Energy Use Through the Maintenance

EGCO Group is committed to promoting energy reduction in power plants, with each plant implementing specific measures.

In 2024, Banpong Utilities Power Plant (BPU) has taken several actions to reduce energy consumption, including:

  • Cleaning the blades of the compressor on the gas turbine and replacing the air filters, with maintenance carried out on all 4 units.
  • Replacing 50 high pressure sodium light bulbs with energy-efficient LED light bulbs.

These actions contribute to reducing the amount of energy use, which includes electricity and fuel that is used for power generation, to ensure efficiency of equipment and machinery.

Benefits of the Project

  • Maintaining machinery helps reduce fuel consumption.
  • Replacing light bulbs helps to reduce electricity consumption by 2 kilowatts.

Implementation Approach

  • Implementing annual maintenance for machinery used in the production.
  • Monitoring energy savings after gas turbine maintenance by calculating the Sample Heating Rate.
  • Replacing 50 light bulbs.

Generating and Using Electricity from Solar Energy

EGCO Group recognizes the importance of utilizing electricity from clean energy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

In 2024, Chaiyaphum Wind Farm (CWF) installed solar panels with a maximum capacity of 38.19 kWp on rooftop of the substation building to generate and use electricity from clean energy.

In addition, SPP Four power plant (SPP4) used the latest bifacial solar panel technology. This enhances production efficiency as bifacial panels can capture sunlight from both the front and rear sides of the panel.

Benefits of the Project

  • Installing solar panels on the roof top can reduce electricity purchases by approximately 20% annually.
  • Using bifacial solar panels can enhance the efficiency of power generation by up to 12%.
  • Transitioning to new solar panel technology can reduce GHG emissions by up to 635 tCO2e/year.

Implementation Approach

  • Installing solar panels on the rooftop helps generate clean energy for use in the power plant.
  • Replacing monofacial solar panels with bifacial solar panels.

Performance Monitoring System

EGCO Group values investment in innovation and R&D to conserve and decrease energy consumption, which will improve operational efficiency.

In 2024, EGCO Group has rolled out Performance Monitoring System (PMS) in power plants. The PMS leverages data from the instruments for various purposes, including real-time monitoring through a dashboard, analyzing data using international standard in graphical formats, and storing data in a database for future analysis.

Benefits of the Project

  • Accessing historical energy usage to plan for future energy conservation.
  • Monitoring real-time polluted emission trends.
  • Setting up alerts for any abnormalities to enable prompt corrective actions.

Implementation Approach

  • Developing a system to calculate values based on standards, ensuring accuracy, and storing the data in the Cloud.

Raising Awareness on Effective Energy Consumption

EGCO Group prioritizes efficient energy management within the organization.

In 2024, Khanom Power Plant (KEGCO), Klong Luang Utilities Power Plant (KLU), and Banpong Utilities Power Plant (BPU) organized energy efficiency training to raise employee awareness on reducing energy consumption. Over 100 employees participated in the training, which covered topics, including:

  • Climate change
  • National Energy Plan (NEP)
  • Case studies on energy loss and unnecessary costs in both workplace and in the residences
  • Case studies on using energy-efficient electrical equipment
  • Raising awareness of energy conservation
  • Brainstorming to develop energy conservation measures within the organization

In addition, EGCO Group organized the "Go Walk Go Green" event in October 2024. The initiative encouraged employees to take the stairs instead of using the elevator to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Employees who accumulate the most points will receive a reward from the organization.

Benefits of the Project

  • Gaining knowledge on energy conservation and efficient energy use for employees.
  • Reducing energy consumption and lowering costs for the organization.
  • Increasing awareness and fostering a stronger commitment to using energy more efficiently.

Implementation Approach

  • Providing energy efficiency training for power plant employees.
  • Conducting pre-training and post-training assessment.
  • Organizing activities and providing incentives to encourage employees to participate in energy reduction initiatives.
